Today, I found a story of World Recognized Criminal who attempted a crime from Sherlock Holmes Stories. Sherlock Holmes is a fictional consulting detective and English Author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created this character as his masterpiece literary work. And we talking about Victor Lusting and not about his twice Eiffel Tower Sold incident. Actually he managed to sold out eiffel tower which located in the middle of Busy Paris.

If you have read Sherlock Holmes stories, it contain 56 short stories and 4 novels. If you can recall a short story from “Untold Cases” called ” The Case of Victor Lynch” which is about man who could disappear from perfectly locked house. First encounter of this man was dated back to the SH’s early stage of career. When he was an amateur detective, He found a house that wife was complaining missing husband from a locked house.

Then incident was recalled by Holmes when he got a client who had a similar experience recently. In this story, that client was cheated by the suspect about Fake money printing machine. Client noted that the suspect showed a box that can reprint an original dollar bill to another when we put a piece of paper to the machine. It said, process takes 6 hours. Actually the suspect was cheating the client.

Con Artist Victor Lusting (Viktor Lustic in German Pronounce)

Those stories were written between Late 1800s and Early 1900s Most between 1890 – 1905. Meaning while, a very famous con artist and the master of fraud Victor lusting born in 1890. He did various very notable crimes and frauds such as attempting to sell Eiffel tower twice. According to the reports, after 1925 or nearby Victor Lusting has sold a fake dollar bill duplicating machine. The machine was also fake or in other words, that machine cannot duplicate dollar bills even Victor convinced buyers. The Key point is buyers cannot go to the Police to complain that “Victor sold them a Fake – Fake Bill Printing Machine” because those buyers have almost attempted a crime to own a fake money printing machine.

As per records, Victor has introduced a mysterious box called The Rumanian Box. As per said this box can duplicate dollar bills. According to the Victor’s Instructions, There had a two drawers in the box. We need to put an original bill to one pocket and a piece of white blank paper identically cut to the dollar bill to another pocket. After carefully set the levers, the machine takes 6 hours to get the job done. Victor has performed few attempts with buyer to win the trust. And he has always succeed to win a deal. Actually, Victor had hidden some original dollar bills to fool the buyer and buy some time for his perfect escape before buyer realize that the machine cannot duplicate anything.

If you have read the story of Sherlock Holmes. You will see that both stories are completely identical. But Sherlock Holmes in operations when the Victor grow up. I conclude that Victor Lusting has taken this story to real life crime attempt. In Sherlock Holmes story the notorious criminal was Victor Lynch.

Someone can guess that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle took a real-life incident for his book. To know the exactly the way of happened, I have to do more research. If you know the correct way, let us know in comment section. Did Doyle took Lusting’s story or Lusting took Doyle’s story?
