Violence Loving Myanmar Buddhist Monk has been released by Myanmar newly self-appointed military coup government.
Extreme nationalist Buddhist monk in Myanmar as well as notorious for the anti-Muslim believer was released from prison last week. There is no wonder as he was expecting an extreme nationalistic military government and his dream has become true. He was charged over violence and anti-government activities by the last civilian democratic government.
He is the founder of a nationalist organization that was accused of inciting violence against Muslims. This monk and the community leader, Wirathu, became prominent in deadly riots that broke out between Buddhists and ethnic minority Rohingya Muslims in the western state of Rakhine 2012.
His narrow view and address over the general public made so uncomfortable situation for Muslims from other ethnic groups in other areas. And they were faced fear, loss of confidence and respect as well as occasional violence. All caused by the Wirathu and his supporters launched their nationalist campaign. Time Magazine called this monk Wirathu “The Face of Buddhist Terror” in a cover story in 2013 and some media call him the “Osama Bin-Laden” of the Buddhist World.
Those Nationalism campaigns are common in poor countries and underdeveloped societies. In India, there are various organizations such as RSS, Shiva Sena etc. In Sri Lanka, there are some organizations called Bodu Bala Sena (exactly the same as Shiva Sena) and Ravana Balaya.
Really disrespected thing is seeing Buddhist monks and followers committing violence. The Buddha was one of the true icons of peace and tolerance as well as Non-violence. The Buddha did reject violence in his teachings even it is for self-defence. In all religions, we can see extremism on a go. However, the new self-appointed military coup regime will never hesitate to motivate violence of their puppets as they never hesitate to conduct violence.
According to the Colombo Telegraph, Colombo base news website; Wirathu has signed an agreement with Sri Lankan Nationalist Monk and the key person of Bodu Bala Sena in 2014. It said, “A special agreement has been signed between the two Buddhist groups Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) and 969 movements with the motive of creating a South Asia free of terrorism and religious fundamentalism”.
We could see similar anti-muslim campaigns in Sri Lanka as well.
