Indonesia reopened borders for Singapore? Indonesia’s tourism bio bubble?
Indonesia has reopened two popular islands which are very close to Singapore. Batam and Bintan islands are very close to the Singapore coast and they are just 32 km away from each other. Indonesian officials have noted that now Singaporeans can visit these islands under covid-19 health and safety measures. Both Islands are nearly 900 km away from Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital. But, those Islands are around 25 km away from Singapore coasts.
As Singapore is a city-state, Singaporeans are very much like to travel around. Indonesia has been received financial benefits from these travel hotspots. Before the pandemic, these two islands were received daily ferries from Singapore.
Under the roadmap of reopening tourism in Indonesia, these actions were taken this week. However, there is no green light from the counter-part yet. Singapore is still considering reopening their sea border with Indonesia as the recent rise of the pandemic in Indonesia.
Bali has reopened their borders and still, they don’t receive international flights as they got regularly before and during pandemics. The situation seems scary as the recent situation went bad.
