The United Kingdom prepares to abandon all pandemic restrictions. Most vulnerable people will be offered another Covid-19 booster shot this spring to bolster their protection says the UK.
This fourth booster shot will be offered to adults aged 75 and older, care home residents, and those over the age of 12 who are immuno-suppressed and at much higher risk of severe Covid, U.K. Health Secretary Sajid Javid says in his statement on Monday (21/Feb/2022). The booster is consulted to consider around six months after a previous dose. Probably another dose will be administrated in Autumn to ensure next winter 2022-2023 is safe.
The Update comes just hours before U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to announce an end to England’s pandemic restrictions. Meanwhile, the country’s 95-year-old monarch Queen Elizabeth II tested positive for the virus. And some reports suggest that Queen may continue her work while diagnosing for the covid as she is in good status.
The United Kingdom is now considered as one of shortlisting countries that have begun broad campaigns for another and fourth booster. Israel moved last month, January to administrate the fourth (second booster) dose to all adults.
Adults over 18 will be offered the mRNA vaccines which are developed by either Moderna Inc. or Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE, while eligible people aged 12 to 18 will receive the Pfizer-BioNTech shot.
