British Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered to ban Aeroflot – the National Flag Carrier of Russia from United Kingdom Airspace.
- On 24th of Feb, Thursday, United Kingdom banned Russia’s state-owned airline, Aeroflot.
- In addition, UK’s Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, ban all Russian airlines from flying in UK airspace & touching down in UK Soil.
- World Famous British Football team “Manchester United” has also cut ties with Aeroflot over the Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine
“This means that Aeroflot will not be permitted to operate flights to or from the United Kingdom until further notice,” the UK CAA said.
Further restrictions have also been put in place to target all scheduled Russian airlines, Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Transport of the UK, announced on his Twitter.
Aeroflot is a member of the SkyTeam Alliance – Int’ Airlines alliance, which also includes US-based Delta Air Lines, and flies to over 150 destinations worldwide. Before the ban, the airline flew daily between Moscow and London.
President Joe Biden did not announce plans to ban Aeroflot yet from operating in the US. As per our observations, the United Kingdom lead the pressure against Russia as they announced direct sanctions before the even US and the day after Putin’s Speak on Monday. The Russian flag carrier currently serves four American destinations, including NYC, LA, DC, and beach capital Miami, according to the airline’s website.
Also cutting ties with Aeroflot is the English premier league football team, Manchester United. The team had sponsorships with the airline since 2013 and renewed the £40 million ($53.5 million) deal in 2017.
