Personal space is the area around a person that he considers to be his psychologically. Most individuals respect their personal space and react with discomfort, anger, or fear when it is violated.

Allowing a person to enter personal space and accessing someone else’s personal space are signs of how these people’s relationships are perceived. Close friends, lovers, children and close family members have access to the intimate zone. Another zone is reserved for chats with friends, colleagues and group discussions. Foreigners, newly formed groups and new acquaintances have their own zone. The fourth zone is used for speeches, lectures and plays; public distance is essentially the range allocated to a larger audience.

Lots of countries including the United States, Great Britain, the European Union and Japan got some legal and social awareness for personal space. Even in the Gulf countries, personal space is being counted due to their religious and cultural opinions.

Somehow, in places like Elevators, Public transport and some recreational activities, we won’t be able to save our boundaries. It is highly uncomfortable to continue that way. However, there are some automatically adopted human actions to manage these situations like avoiding eye contact, taking sides, and paying attention to mobile phones are common.

Despite the practical situations, Culturally and Economically developing countries do not recognize personal space legally or socially. People who face everyday challenges due to this recognition will live with strong psychological stress. It is similar to harassment or assault in some legal and medical frameworks. WHO or any other public welfare organization didn’t make their attention to ensuring the personal space law to implement across the globe.

As a person who really cares about personal space, I am really happy to write about this matter with your help. Visit my Facebook page or Twitter to share your opinions. Let’s raise our voices to open the eyes of the World.
